Caraxes’s Blood Wyrm Lair Overview

First Impressions

Walking up to Caraxes’s Blood Wyrm Lair on Malden Avenue, I’ll be honest — the name had me curious, and the building itself doesn’t disappoint. This three-star hotel sits right in the heart of Capitol Hill, and you can immediately sense why couples gravitate toward this neighborhood. The entrance has this quirky, almost theatrical vibe that fits perfectly with the area’s eclectic personality. It’s not trying to be something it’s not, which I actually found refreshing after staying at so many cookie-cutter places.

Capitol Hill Magic

The location here is genuinely fantastic — guests consistently rate it a 9.1, and after spending time in the area, I get why. You’re literally steps away from some of Seattle’s best coffee shops, vintage stores, and that famous nightlife Capitol Hill is known for. Pike Street and Broadway are both walkable, meaning you can easily hit up places like Victrola Coffee or wander through the weekend farmers market. What I loved most was how you could grab dinner at one of the neighborhood’s incredible restaurants (try Altura if you’re feeling fancy) and just stroll back to the hotel without dealing with rideshares or parking headaches.

The Room Experience

My room was comfortable in that unpretentious way that works well for a three-star property. The decor leans into the dragon theme without going overboard — think subtle nods rather than full medieval fantasy. The bed was solid, the shower had good pressure (always important after walking Seattle’s hills all day), and there’s decent natural light from the windows. You know what surprised me? The soundproofing was better than expected, considering Capitol Hill can get lively, especially on weekends. The WiFi worked reliably, which matters if you’re trying to plan your next day’s adventures or upload those Pike Place Market photos.

Neighborhood Perks

Being on Capitol Hill means you’re in one of Seattle’s most walkable neighborhoods, but it’s the little things that make Caraxes’s Blood Wyrm Lair work so well for couples. There’s something romantic about being able to walk to Volunteer Park for sunset views, then grab cocktails at Canon (seriously, their whiskey selection is incredible) before heading back. The hotel staff seemed to understand this vibe — they’re helpful with restaurant recommendations and actually know the neighborhood well enough to suggest spots that aren’t just the obvious tourist traps.

Why Guests Love It

This place succeeds because it knows exactly what it is. You’re not getting upscale amenities or a concierge in a suit, but you are getting a solid base in one of Seattle’s coolest neighborhoods at a reasonable price point. The couples who stay here seem to appreciate that they can walk to dinner, explore the local music scene, and still have a comfortable, quiet place to return to. It’s the kind of spot where the location does most of the heavy lifting — and honestly, when you’re this well-positioned in Capitol Hill, that’s exactly what you want.

Reviews of Caraxes’s Blood Wyrm Lair

  • Avijit from Canada – 23 January 2025 (1/10)

    Did not like it

What could be improved: There was a hidden charge to be deposited worth $1000, which I felt was not convenient at all

  • Rp from United States – 20 January 2025 (9/10)

The location is very convenient and it is a very quiet neighborhood. It's worth noting that when I went at 7-8pm during my stay, there would be less street parking and some walking would be required to get there, but the neighborhood was very nice and I would consider it safe.
The landlord was very nice and he took care of the needs in a timely manner.

What could be improved: The bathroom is not connected to the room and you need to go out and back in. The problem for me is that I need to repeat the process of going out the door – locking it – unlocking the other one, which is slightly annoying.

  • James from United States – 11 December 2024 (9/10)

The bed and bedding were extremely comfortable Slept great

What could be improved: Parking was a problem, but many restaurants, coffee shops are easy access walking

  • Marai from Mexico – 2 November 2024 (5/10)

It's clean and the neighborhood is nice and quiet.

What could be improved: This is an airbnb that should not be on booking. The bathroom is outside the room. They charge a 1000 usd security deposit but one of the windows didnt work so it was always half open. There is no elevator so everyone hits the luggage on the stairs making a lot of noise. There is no chance to leave the luggage before the check in or after the check out but they wil remind you the check out time.

  • Greg from South Africa – 27 September 2024 (9/10)

  • Veronica from Netherlands – 24 September 2024 (8/10)

It's very close to coffee shops and restaurants. It's is relatively close to downtown so either public transportation or Uber are good options. It has shared washer and dryer and a complete kitchen, and a mini fridge and Nespresso machine in the room.
