Perch – The Canal 9B Overview
First Impressions
Walking into Perch – The Canal 9B, you immediately get that this isn’t your typical three-star hotel. The space feels more like a carefully curated boutique property than anything corporate — there’s something refreshingly honest about the design that doesn’t try too hard to impress. It’s tucked into Fremont, which honestly makes perfect sense once you spend time in the neighborhood. The lobby has this understated charm that sets the tone for what you’ll find throughout the property.
The Fremont Advantage
Here’s what I love about staying in Fremont — you’re actually experiencing Seattle like a local rather than just checking off tourist boxes. The neighborhood has this quirky, artistic vibe that feels authentic, and Perch – The Canal 9B sits right in the heart of it all. You can walk to the famous Fremont Troll (yes, it’s as weird and wonderful as it sounds), browse the Sunday Market, or grab coffee at one of those hole-in-the-wall spots that locals guard jealously. The canal views that give the hotel part of its name aren’t just marketing speak either — you actually get glimpses of the water that remind you Seattle is very much a waterfront city.
The Rooms
The accommodations strike that sweet spot between comfortable and characterful. I mean, you’re not getting marble bathrooms or Egyptian cotton sheets, but everything feels thoughtfully chosen rather than just ordered from a hotel supply catalog. The rooms are well-sized for Seattle standards — which, let’s be honest, means they’re not huge but they’re smartly laid out. What impressed me most was how quiet it stays despite being in an active neighborhood. The beds are actually comfortable (you know how hit-or-miss that can be), and there’s enough space to spread out your stuff without feeling cramped.
Getting Around
Transportation from here works better than you might expect. Sure, you’re not right downtown, but that’s actually part of the appeal — you get a break from the hustle while still being connected. The bus connections are solid if you’re planning to explore other neighborhoods, and if you’re driving, parking isn’t the nightmare it can be in other parts of the city. Plus, there’s something to be said for ending your day somewhere that feels like a neighborhood rather than a tourist zone.
Why Guests Love It
The couples who rate this place so highly aren’t wrong — there’s something romantic about discovering a lesser-known part of Seattle together. It’s the kind of place where you can have a genuine experience without feeling like you’re following a guidebook. The staff seems to actually know the area and can point you toward things you wouldn’t find on your own. For a three-star property, Perch – The Canal 9B delivers way more personality and local flavor than hotels twice the price in more obvious locations. You’ll leave feeling like you actually visited Seattle, not just its most photographed spots.

Great location in Fremont, exactly what we needed for a 1 night stay. Very clean property, easy to self check-in with clear instructions from the hosts.

Andrea from United States – 12 January 2024 (7/10)
Location is great, lots of bars, shops, and restaurants walkable distance. Bed is very comfortable and the host was easy to get ahold of for questions.
What could be improved: Definitely could’ve used a tv! And place was smaller than I thought. Was not the listing pictured but very similar.
