The Boylston Hotel Capitol Hill, Sonder by Marriott Bonvoy Overview

First Impressions

Walking up to The Boylston Hotel Capitol Hill, Sonder by Marriott Bonvoy on Boylston Avenue, you immediately get that this isn’t your typical hotel experience. It’s actually more like stepping into a well-designed apartment building — which, honestly, is exactly what makes it work so well in this neighborhood. The three-star property has this understated, modern vibe that fits perfectly with Capitol Hill’s eclectic energy without trying too hard to be trendy. The building’s contemporary facade blends seamlessly with the surrounding architecture, creating an inviting entrance that sets the tone for your entire stay.

The Capitol Hill Advantage

You know what’s great about staying here? You’re right in the heart of one of Seattle‘s most walkable neighborhoods. I mean, Capitol Hill is where locals actually hang out — not just tourists. You can walk to Pike Place Market in about 15 minutes, but more importantly, you’re surrounded by some of the city’s best coffee shops, vintage stores, and late-night eats. The location really is top-notch, and I can see why couples rate it so highly — there’s something romantic about wandering these tree-lined streets together. The neighborhood’s vibrant arts scene and diverse dining options create an authentic urban experience that captures the essence of modern Seattle living.

The Room Experience

The room setup is where Sonder really shines. Each unit feels like a proper apartment with a full kitchen, which honestly saves you so much money when Seattle’s restaurant prices start adding up. The design is clean and functional — think Scandinavian minimalism meets Pacific Northwest comfort. What I really appreciated was the attention to details like good lighting and actual counter space, things that matter when you’re staying more than just a night or two. High-quality appliances and thoughtfully curated furnishings create a sophisticated atmosphere that makes extended stays feel effortless and enjoyable.

Neighborhood Life

Capitol Hill has this perfect mix of daytime calm and nighttime energy that makes it ideal for different types of travelers. During the day, you’ll find yourself popping into independent bookstores and grabbing coffee at places like Victrola. Come evening, the area transforms — there’s live music, craft cocktails, and this general buzz that makes you want to explore. The fact that you can walk back to your comfortable space after a night out instead of dealing with rideshares or hotel lobbies? That’s actually pretty valuable. The neighborhood’s cultural diversity and creative spirit provide endless opportunities for discovery and authentic local experiences.

Why Guests Love It

What sets this place apart is how it combines the independence of an apartment rental with the reliability of a Marriott-backed property. You get the space and freedom to live like a local, but with professional housekeeping and 24/7 support when you need it. The parking situation is manageable too, which anyone who’s driven in Seattle will tell you is no small thing. It’s that sweet spot where you feel like you’re experiencing the real Seattle while still having all the conveniences that make travel comfortable rather than stressful. Guests consistently praise the thoughtful design and welcoming atmosphere that define their stay, along with the seamless blend of modern amenities and neighborhood authenticity.

Seattle hotels pair craft roaster cuppings, speakeasy jazz, and concierge-led Puget Sound cruises.

Reviews of The Boylston Hotel Capitol Hill, Sonder by Marriott Bonvoy

  • Benjamin from Australia – 2 May 2025 (9/10)

Everything about the stay itself was fine. Staff were friendly when around.

What could be improved: Didn’t know about the existence of a service elevator until second time I stayed. Not exactly easy hauling baggage/suitcases up stairs if you are not on the ground floor.

  • Nikola from Australia – 9 December 2024 (8/10)

Clean and comfortable. Sufficient for my solo travel, however might be tight for 2. Shower is also in bedroom, so consider this if ravelling as a pair.
Good area, felt safe, key codes to building and bedroom.
Easy nearby walk to restaurants and grocer.
Location was reasonable to downtown and attractions, about 30min walk or public transport available.

What could be improved: Can be a bit noisey however this didn’t bother me. They provide earplugs and a white noise machine to minimise this.
Only has very basic meal facilities, coffee machine and mini fridge. Microwave would be ideal given there is room on the bench for one.

  • Tom from Ireland – 3 December 2024 (8/10)

    Clean and easy to use

What could be improved: Air system made noise

  • Elysia from Canada – 18 November 2024 (7/10)

Another reliable Sonder property. Fantastic location, comfortable bed, clean and modern room, simple and mostly efficient building facilities, helpful and friendly staff, competitive price.

What could be improved: – The lack of bathroom privacy is fine for a solo traveller but would be uncomfortable for 2 guests. The glass shower is in the centre of the room, separate toilet has a door with partial frosted glass, and sink is next to the bed.
    – Layout of this particular studio was awkward – nowhere to comfortably open luggage without blocking access to bed or doors, shower right next to front door, towel hooks in odd spots etc
    – Luggage storage facilities were limited considering size of building, and were full when I needed them – Sonder staff were helpful as always in offering a solution (storing in office) but 3 other guests also arrived and found the same issue whilst I was waiting.
    – No easy elevator access was challenging for staying on the 5th floor (have to call staff to use goods elevator if you don’t want to use stairs).

  • Teresa from Spain – 31 August 2024 (8/10)

    Extremely functional place

  • Christina from United States – 30 August 2024 (7/10)

The location was great and the building and room was clean. Check-in was smooth and easy. I loved the extra amenities and water fountain located in the hallway.

What could be improved: It was a relatively quiet building, but whoever was in the room above me was very noisy and I could hear every noise they made. Also, the TV wifi kept going down.

  • Kathryn from United States – 27 July 2024 (9/10)

A converted apartment building, beautifully redone, clean, great shower, close to restaurants, Elliott Bay books, easy walk from light rail, thoughtful communication about logistics, coffee maker, noise machine, easy access to extra towels , coffee.

What could be improved: Nothing—all good.

  • Gillian from United States – 11 July 2024 (7/10)

The property was very clean, in a fun neighborhood of Seattle, and nearby great restaurants.

What could be improved: It was hot outside and there is only AC in the individual units and the lounge. We were 3 people so we needed 2 rooms. There is no front desk or staff person you can speak to directly on site unless you run into the one person who comes and goes when there is an issue. Check in with 2 rooms was complicated and would have been easier with help. We had issues with one door and one AC unit and both took long phone calls to an international staff who couldn’t really help from a far. It made the stay less than desirable.

  • Aleksandr from United States – 23 June 2024 (9/10)

Clean and cozy room. Fridge and coffee machine. Additional tea sachets, coffee capsules, and paper utensils can be found in the hall of every floor.

What could be improved: Veery small room. The wi-fi password contains 0 (zero) and not O (letter) and I was struggling with it a lot. Some homeless people can be seen around.

  • Craine from Canada – 23 May 2024 (9/10)

Great for travelers on a budget, expecting ‘no frills’ service. The service was good for the little of it that we needed.

What could be improved: Nothing! The locker storages were full but staff took our luggage to our bedroom before check in.
