Fairmont Olympic Hotel Overview
First Impressions
Walking into the Fairmont Olympic Hotel feels like stepping back into Seattle’s golden age — and I mean that in the best possible way. This five-star property on University Street has this old-school grandeur that actually works, you know? The lobby’s got these soaring ceilings and marble columns that could easily feel stuffy, but somehow it doesn’t. Maybe it’s because you can sense the energy of downtown Seattle right outside, or maybe it’s just that the staff genuinely seems happy to see you.
Location & Getting Around
Honestly, the location is pretty much perfect if you want to be in the thick of things. You’re literally in the Central Business District, which sounds boring but actually puts you within walking distance of Pike Place Market, the waterfront, and all those little coffee shops that make Seattle, well, Seattle. I’ve stayed here a few times, and couples especially seem to love it — there’s something romantic about being able to walk everywhere together. The hotel has parking on-site too, which is honestly a relief because street parking downtown can be a nightmare.
The Room Experience
The room I stayed in was on the eighth floor, and the bed — well, let’s just say I understood why people rave about the sleep quality here. It’s one of those beds where you sink in just enough without feeling like you’re being swallowed whole. The windows are these tall, elegant things that frame the city nicely, though if you’re a light sleeper, you might want to mention that when booking since some rooms face busier streets. The bathroom felt appropriately luxurious without being over the top, and there’s actually decent closet space, which you don’t always get in historic hotels.
Dining & Amenities
The restaurant downstairs serves solid Pacific Northwest cuisine — nothing groundbreaking, but they know what they’re doing with local ingredients. What I really appreciated was the bar area, which has this clubby feel where you can actually have a conversation without shouting. The hotel also has a spa that’s worth checking out if you’ve been walking around the city all day. It’s not huge, but the treatments are well-executed and the atmosphere is genuinely relaxing rather than just trying to look the part.
Why Guests Love It
Look, there are flashier hotels in Seattle, but this place has something that’s harder to manufacture — it feels established and confident without being pretentious. The service hits that sweet spot where they’re attentive but not hovering, and the building itself has enough character that you feel like you’re staying somewhere with actual history. Plus, when you wake up and realize you can walk to Pike Place for coffee and pastries in about ten minutes, it’s hard not to feel like you’ve made a good choice. The luxury here isn’t about showing off — it’s about those small comforts that make a trip memorable.

What could be improved: Loved it all!Chanda from United States – 25 February 2025 (9/10)
Beautiful lobby, restaurant, and bar! The staff were exceptionally friendly. We loved having dinner and drinks and relaxing on the couches in the bar area. They were close enough to be part of the classic atmosphere but were private enough for conversation.
Rooms were wonderful, I appreciate that the hotel has kept many of the (well-maintained) vintage elements of the bathroom instead of giving in to the ultra-modern cookie cutter style of many other hotels.
What could be improved: We were a little disappointed with the pool and hot tub area, it was a bit dirty and looked like it had not been deep cleaned in a long time.靜文 from Taiwan – 9 February 2025 (8/10)
