Hotel Sorrento Overview
First Impressions
Walking into Hotel Sorrento feels like stepping into a piece of old Seattle that somehow survived all the tech boom craziness. This four-star boutique hotel on Madison Street has this Italian Renaissance thing going on — think rich mahogany, marble floors, and the kind of lobby that makes you want to sit with a cocktail and pretend you’re more sophisticated than you actually are. The staff genuinely seems to know what they’re doing, which honestly isn’t always a given in Seattle hotels.
The Heart of First Hill
You know what’s great about this location? You’re right in First Hill, which locals call “Pill Hill” because of all the hospitals, but don’t let that fool you — it’s actually one of the best spots to stay. You can walk to Pike Place Market in about fifteen minutes (downhill, thankfully), and the waterfront is just beyond that. Capitol Hill’s restaurants and bars are a quick Uber ride away, and if you’re here for medical stuff at Swedish or Harborview, well, you’re practically next door. The couples who stay here seem to get it — there’s something romantic about being slightly removed from the downtown chaos but still connected to everything.
The Room Experience
My room had this classic European feel that you don’t find in most Seattle hotels — heavy curtains, quality linens, and a marble bathroom that actually had decent water pressure. The windows are tall and let in good light, which matters more than you’d think during Seattle’s gray months. Some rooms face the courtyard (quieter), others look out toward the Sound if you’re lucky. The beds are seriously comfortable — I mean, I’ve stayed in places where you wake up feeling like you wrestled with the mattress all night, but this wasn’t one of them.
Dining and Atmosphere
The Hunt Club restaurant downstairs is where this place really shows its personality. It’s got this old-school steakhouse vibe with dark wood and leather banquettes — the kind of place where Seattle’s old money probably made deals back in the day. The food is solid (try the duck if it’s on the menu), and the bar makes a mean Negroni. Breakfast here feels special too, not like those sad hotel buffets where everything tastes like it’s been sitting under heat lamps since yesterday. There’s also parking available, which in this part of Seattle is basically like finding buried treasure.
Why Guests Love It
Here’s the thing about Hotel Sorrento — it’s not trying to be the flashiest or most modern place in town. Instead, it’s got this timeless quality that feels authentic in a city that’s changing so fast you barely recognize it sometimes. The service has that personal touch where they remember your name, and the whole place has character that you just can’t manufacture. For couples especially, there’s something about the intimate scale and old-world charm that works. It’s the kind of hotel where you can imagine coming back for anniversaries, you know?
Hotels near me in Seattle deliver quick Link rides to Capitol Hill brunches, Ballard breweries, and Discovery Park trails.

Reviews of Hotel Sorrento
Dara from United States – 5 May 2025 (8/10)
Beautiful hotel and piece of Seattle history.
What could be improved: First Hill is a tough neighborhood for parking. Valet was full as well as the public lot across the street. We’d recommend arriving late afternoon, or right after check out if you have a car and park it for 24 hrs in the lot.. Then, explore the city without it. There are easy buses, Ubers, and light rail downtownDonna from United States – 12 March 2025 (9/10)
Spacious and beautifully appointed rooms. Friendly helpful staff. Very comfortable. Small historic hotel.
What could be improved: Lots of extra costs like expensive valet parking and early check in, to be expected in a boutique hotel. But doesn’t add up to good value.Gail from United States – 11 November 2024 (8/10)
Good location, comfortable rooms.
What could be improved: The vibe was old school and staid. We would have liked something more modern.Angelique from Australia – 21 August 2024 (8/10)
A lovely historic hotel with boutique rooms, larger than pictured actually. Great location and plenty of street parking around the blocks. I wouldn’t worry about parking too much

What could be improved: No air conditioningDerek from United Kingdom – 3 July 2024 (8/10)
Beautiful old hotel with loads of character. Felt clean and modern inside despite its age. Family room was great for three of us. Staff were friendly and engaging.
What could be improved: We had a 20 year old as part of our group and she wasn’t allowed into two of the three social spaces in the hotel due to US licensing laws. Left us with the restaurant as the only space to relax in despite the beautiful foyer surroundings.Roger from United States – 2 July 2024 (9/10)
Unique and interesting, not your typical hotel.
Vanessa from United States – 29 June 2024 (7/10)
Cozy spaces
What could be improved: There was chemical smell in the room. Elevator was out of service, and our room was on the 5th floor
