Residence Inn by Marriott Seattle University District Overview

First Impressions

Walking into the Residence Inn by Marriott Seattle University District, you immediately get that extended-stay vibe — but in the best possible way. This three-star property sits right in the heart of Seattle‘s University District, and honestly, the location couldn’t be better if you’re looking to explore the area without dealing with downtown chaos. The lobby feels welcoming without being overly fancy, which actually works perfectly for the neighborhood’s laid-back academic atmosphere.

The Neighborhood Advantage

You know what I love about this spot? It’s nestled on 12th Avenue Northeast, which puts you within walking distance of the University of Washington campus — perfect if you’re visiting for graduation, touring colleges, or just want to experience that college town energy. The Ave (as locals call University Way) is just a few blocks away, packed with quirky bookstores, coffee shops, and some surprisingly good ethnic restaurants. I mean, where else can you grab authentic Thai food at 2 AM and then browse used books until dawn? The neighborhood truly captures the essence of what makes this area special.

Your Home Base

The room setup here is what really sets this place apart from typical hotels. Each suite comes with a full kitchen, which honestly saves you a ton of money when you’re staying for more than a couple nights. The beds are genuinely comfortable — and I’m someone who usually struggles with hotel mattresses — so that 9.2 rating for sleep quality makes total sense. There’s enough space to actually live a bit, not just crash between sightseeing adventures. You’ll find yourself appreciating the thoughtful layout and quality furnishings throughout.

Morning Fuel

Breakfast here is solid American fare served buffet-style, nothing too fancy but definitely gets the job done. What I appreciate is that it’s substantial enough to keep you going through a morning of exploring Pike Place Market or hiking around Green Lake. Plus, with that full kitchen in your suite, you can always supplement with your own coffee setup — which, let’s be honest, is essential in a city this obsessed with good coffee. The flexibility this offers guests is genuinely valuable.

Why Guests Love It

The parking situation alone makes this place worth considering — private parking at a Seattle hotel is basically like finding a unicorn, especially at this price point. Couples seem particularly drawn to the location (that 9.5 rating speaks for itself), probably because you can easily walk to dinner spots, catch a movie at the Neptune Theatre, or just wander through the University District’s tree-lined streets. The whole area has this relaxed, intellectual vibe that’s distinctly Seattle but without the tourist crowds you’ll find downtown. It’s the kind of place where you can actually imagine living, not just visiting. This property truly offers something special for extended stays.

  • Katie from United States – 25 February 2025 (10/10)

The property was very secure, you need a key card to access which the doors and the elevators, which was appreciated. Access to UW campus is great. They gave us a map and a list of surrounding attractions and food, also nice and the meal we had from a recommended restaurant was excellent! Bailey checked us in and gave us some additional info about UW when she found out we were visiting campus (she’s a senior at UW).

What could be improved: There could always be more hooks at the entrance to the room to hang up jackets, but there were some in the bathroom so that was nice!
