The Ferry House Overview

First Impressions

Honestly, The Ferry House caught me off guard in the best way possible. You know what I love about this place? It doesn’t try to be something it’s not — it’s this charming four-star spot tucked away on Ferry Avenue that feels more like staying at a well-appointed friend’s house than a typical hotel. The moment you pull up, there’s something refreshingly unpretentious about it, and the fact that there’s actually parking right on site (and it’s free!) already puts it ahead of most Seattle accommodations.

West Seattle Magic

The location is honestly brilliant, especially if you want to experience Seattle without being right in the thick of downtown chaos. West Seattle has this laid-back vibe that locals have been trying to keep secret for years — you’re close enough to catch the ferry across to the main city (hence the name, I’m guessing), but far enough away to actually breathe. I mean, couples are rating the location nearly perfect for good reason. You can walk to Alki Beach for those stunning city skyline views, grab coffee at local spots that haven’t been overrun by tourists yet, and still be downtown in about 20 minutes when you want the full Seattle experience.

The Room Experience

My room was exactly what I hoped for — comfortable without being fussy, clean lines, and those little touches that show someone actually thought about what travelers need. The windows let in great natural light, which is crucial during Seattle’s cloudier months, and the beds are legitimately comfortable (not just hotel-marketing comfortable). What I really appreciated was the attention to sound — you’re not hearing every footstep from the hallway or street noise that can plague city hotels.

Practical Perks

Here’s where The Ferry House really shines for actual travelers — it’s those practical things that make or break a stay. The staff genuinely knows the area and can point you toward the good stuff, not just the obvious tourist traps. The whole property feels well-maintained without being sterile, and there’s this sense that they’ve figured out how to balance being professional with being welcoming. Plus, having that guaranteed parking spot means you can actually explore the neighborhood without the Seattle parking nightmare.

Why Guests Love It

After staying here, I totally get why recent guests keep rating this place so highly. It’s not trying to be the fanciest hotel in Seattle — instead, it’s mastering the art of being exactly what you need. The location gives you the best of both worlds, the service feels genuine rather than scripted, and honestly, it’s just a pleasant place to come back to after a day of exploring. For couples especially, there’s something about the quieter West Seattle setting that feels more romantic than being surrounded by downtown hustle. It’s the kind of place that makes you want to extend your stay, which is really the highest compliment I can give any hotel.

Exploring Seattle layers rooftop gardens, tide flat walks, and rainy-day museum hops.

Reviews of The Ferry House

  • Robert from United States – 3 May 2025 (9/10)

The location was great. The apartment was spotless and well-equipped. We also enjoyed the view and the proximity to the water taxi and restaurants.

What could be improved: The steps into the house were very steep, as was the walk to and from the ferry. For individuals who are fit, it should be no problem. Parking was also tight and could be difficult if both apartments are rented simultaneously.

  • Kay from United States – 2 May 2025 (8/10)

The location was near (within walking distance) of grocery stores, pharmacy, and restaurant. We didn't have a car. Took a Lyft (cheaper than Uber) to the Space Needle, to the Gardens, and to the pier (cruise time). The Ferry House was fantastic. Everything we needed was there such as Laundry Room, Stove, very comfortable beds, and a great view of the bay. Would recommend stay here. The property manager was great and showed patience working with two technology challenged old ladies on getting through the check in process.

What could be improved: The stairs for getting up to the door of the property. Two old ladies with bad knees. Would we stay there again? You bet cha!

  • Yasmin from United States – 29 March 2025 (9/10)

The location was perfect, super cute apartment, nicely decorated. Walking distance to Alki beach and the water taxi. Quiet neighborhood. Well stocked kitchen. Very informative instruction booklet on things to do in the area as well as house rules etc. would definitely book again!

What could be improved: When we arrived smoke alarm in bedroom was chirping (needed a new battery) when we arrived. Had to remove battery so we could sleep.
Parking was tight when tenants from above apartment arrived.

  • Corey from United States – 2 January 2025 (9/10)

Within walking distance to the ferry but the road is dark, winding and no sidewalk so don’t walk at night. Views were wonderful. Beds were comfortable and the small kitchen was well appointed.

What could be improved: Lots of stairs to get up to the apartment.

  • Anna from United States – 20 December 2024 (8/10)

We didn't like this property – we loved it. Adriana is an exceptional host and the Ferry House is even better in person. It looks like it is straight out of a magazine. We loved the location, the view, the local restaurants, the very well done and helpful guide provided by the host, the fireplace…everything. Decor is next level. We have stayed in several different places in and around Seattle as we come up from the Bay Area periodically for Seahawks games, but our search is over…we will definitely be staying here again, and again!

What could be improved: My only suggestion for an improvement (and this is minor, it really is a gem of a place) would be to replace the queen size comforter on the king size bed in the bedroom with a king size comforter (we found ourselves playing blanket tug of war in the middle of the night), but other than that it was perfect.

  • Lindsey from Australia – 11 October 2024 (9/10)

We enjoyed the location and proximity to the ferry into the city. The bedrooms were both a decent size with comfy beds.

  • Fiona from United Kingdom – 5 October 2024 (8/10)

The top flat is incredible- this is the main photo. We rented both apartments which was perfect for our stay

  • Kamrul from United States – 1 October 2024 (9/10)

Nice, cozy place in West Seattle. Other side of downtown Seattle but short drive or 15mjns water taxi to downtown.

  • Martijn from United States – 29 September 2024 (9/10)

The apartment and view are beautiful Alki beach location is a great place to visit Seattle from. Not walking distance but close enough to « feel » the city.

  • Krystie from Canada – 24 September 2024 (8/10)

The location was amazing. Access to a fabulous neighbourhood. Free parking. Comfortable beds. Nicely decorated. Great exercise when getting coffee in the morning!

What could be improved: We loved everything about the stay. Would definitely book this property again if visiting Seattle.
